Heat Index at 105 in Wiregrass

Houston County EMA Director Clark Mathews issued a heat advisory to Wiregrass Seniors today, Thursday, July 22.

While many topics were covered at today's commission meeting, the heat advisory was most pressing.

With a heat index expected of 105 today, seniors without air conditioning are at risk and need to be taken care of.

Clark Mathews, the Houston County EMA Director, said, "We're also encouraging everyone to go to public areas like malls, libraries, those kind of things first. But if they absolutely have no where else to go call the EMA office and we have 3 churches who are willing to open if the need is there."

The churches are just to be used as cooling stations until 5PM when the sun goes down.

They will not provide food, only water and air conditioning.
