Long Term Discussion

LONG TERM (SUNDAY THROUGH NEXT THURSDAY)...THE EXTENDED PERIOD BEGINS WITH NEARLY ZONAL FLOW ALOFT AS THE UPPER TROF BEGINS TO FLATTEN AND MOVE EAST INTO THE ATLANTIC. AT THE SURFACE...LINGERING MOISTURE AS THE SURFACE LOW DEPARTS WILL KEEP CLOUDS IN THE FORECAST...AT LEAST FOR OUR NORTHERN ZONES. THIS WILL HELP TO MODERATE TEMPERATURES THROUGH THE WEEKEND AND INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK. HIGHS WILL REMAIN JUST BELOW CLIMATOLOGICAL NORMS (MID TO UPPER 60S) WITH OVERNIGHT LOWS NEAR CLIMO (UPPER 40S). BY MID WEEK NEXT WEEK... THE BENIGN UPPER PATTERN BECOMES MORE AMPLIFIED AS A POTENT SHORT WAVE RACES TOWARDS THE SOUTHEAST. MODELS ARE IN GOOD AGREEMENT EARLY IN THE WEEK AS THEY EJECT THE UPPER LOW ACROSS THE FOUR CORNERS INTO SOUTHWEST TEXAS BY MONDAY NIGHT. ON TUESDAY...THE ECMWF KEEPS THE LOW CLOSED AS IT SLOWLY DRIFTS EAST ACROSS TEXAS WHILE THE GFS OPENS UP THE LOW AND ABSORBS IT INTO THE LARGE SCALE UPPER TROF. BY WEDNESDAY...THE GFS HAS THE UPPER WAVE MOVING ACROSS THE NORTHERN GULF WITH A NEW SHORTWAVE DIVING SOUTH ON ITS HEELS. WILL LEAN TOWARDS THE GFS SOLUTION AS THE CANADIAN FAVORS THIS TRACK MORE CLOSELY THAN IT DOES THE ECMWF. IT APPEARS THIS SYSTEM WILL HAVE A MINOR IMPACT ON OUR REGION WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY AS THE SURFACE LOW REMAINS FAR TO OUR SOUTH KEEPING US ON THE STABLE SIDE AWAY FROM THE THREAT OF SEVERE WEATHER. EXPECT SHOWER ACTIVITY THROUGH THE DAY ON WEDNESDAY AS THE LOW MOVES ACROSS THE SOUTHERN GULF. ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT INTO THURSDAY MORNING THE SECOND SHORTWAVE PORTRAYED BY THE GFS SLIDES SOUTH INTO OUR LOCAL AREA ABOUT THE TIME THE ECMWF HAS ITS INITIAL UPPER LOW ARRIVING. THIS WILL KEEP RAIN CHANCES UP THROUGH THURSDAY.
