Dense fog is blanketing a large part of the Midwest through parts of the Ohio Valley to the central Gulf states, reducing the visibility to as low as a quarter of a mile. This will create dangerous travel conditions for the morning commute before the fog breaks during the midday and early afternoon hours.
Those in Tulsa, Kansas City, St. Louis, Memphis and Tupelo should allow extra following distance between your car and the vehicle in front of you. People who have work on this holiday should also prepare for a slower commute than normal.
Where the temperature fell below freezing overnight, freezing fog will be found. In these areas, there could be some icy spots on roadways. Des Moines and Chicago will be included in this threat zone.
