DISCUSSION...WITH THE HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM SETTLING IN OVER OUR REGION...TEMPERATURES DROPPED TO SOME OF THE LOWEST READINGS WE HAVE SEEN WITH THE RECENT ARCTIC OUTBREAK. RECORD BREAKING COLD TEMPERATURES WERE OBSERVED THIS MORNING AT THE TALLAHASSEE REGIONAL AIRPORT. THE TEMPERATURE PLUNGED TO 14 DEGREES THIS MORNING...BREAKING THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 15 DEGREES SET IN 1982. THE ENHANCED RADIATIONAL COOLING PROVIDED CRESTVIEW WITH OUR COLDEST READING OF 12 DEGREES REPORTED AT 1300Z.

LETS FLASH BACK TO THE PAST FOR A MINUTE...WHILE LOCATIONS IN CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN FLORIDA EXPERIENCED A MIX OF SLEET AND SNOW FLURRIES WITH THE RECENT COLD FRONTAL PASSAGE...WE APPEARED TO MISS OUT ON ANY SNOWFALL HERE IN TALLAHASSEE. THIS MORNING WE CONFIRMED THAT ON FRIDAY MORNING BETWEEN 1000Z AND 1100Z...TALLAHASSEE REGIONAL AIRPORT REPORTED A FEW MINUTES OF SNOW FLURRIES WITH THE FRONT. SO WHILE NOTHING SUBSTANTIAL FELL...STILL FELT IT WAS INTERESTING ENOUGH TO PUT INTO THE DISCUSSION.

WHILE THE HIGH PRESSURE CENTERED OVER OUR REGION PROVIDED US WITH BITTERLY COLD TEMPERATURES THIS MORNING...IT WILL HELP US TO WARM UP A BIT MORE THAN PREVIOUS DAYS. THE LACK OF COLD AIR ADVECTION AND THE AMPLE AMOUNT OF SUNSHINE WILL ALLOW TEMPERATURES TO REBOUND INTO THE UPPER 40S ACROSS THE REGION THIS AFTERNOON WITH WINDS EXPECTED TO STAY LIGHT OUT OF THE WEST NORTHWEST. NO MAJOR UPDATES WERE NEEDED WITH THE FORECAST GRIDS THIS MORNING. UPON FURTHER REVIEW...IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED THAT THE RECORD FOR THE MOST DAYS IN A MONTH WITH A LOW TEMPERATURE OF 25 OR LESS IS 12...SET IN 2001. UNDER OUR CURRENT FORECAST PACKAGE...TOMORROW MORNING WILL BE THE 8TH DAY OF THE MONTH AT OR BELOW 25 DEGREES. WEDNESDAY HAS THE POSSIBILITY TO BE THE 9TH...AND WITH OVER HALF OF THE MONTH REMAINING...IT IS A POSSIBILITY THAT THIS RECORD COULD BE BROKEN.
