Short Term Discussion

THE HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM THAT ALLOWED US TO GET SO COLD LAST NIGHT IS BEGINNING TO DRIFT SOUTHWARD. THIS IS IN RESPONSE TO AN APPROACHING DRY COLD FRONT ASSOCIATED WITH WHAT APPEARS TO BE THE LAST IN A SERIES OF SHORTWAVES DROPPING INTO THE REGION. FOR THE EARLY PART OF THE NIGHT...WINDS WILL REMAIN LIGHT ALLOWING TEMPERATURES TO FALL QUICKLY. AS THE FRONTAL BOUNDARY APPROACHES FROM THE NORTH...A TIGHTENING PRESSURE GRADIENT WILL INCREASE THE WINDS ACROSS THE REGION CAUSING TEMPERATURES TO FALL SLOWLY OR LEVEL OFF COMPLETELY. THEREFORE...ALTHOUGH A HARD FREEZE IS EXPECTED...TEMPERATURES WILL NOT BE ABLE TO FALL INTO THE TEENS ACROSS THE ENTIRE REGION LIKE THEY DID LAST NIGHT. TUESDAY...THE GRADUAL WARMING TREND BEGINS WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES GETTING INTO THE LOW 50S. A HARD FREEZE WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING AS TEMPERATURES ONCE AGAIN ARE EXPECTED TO FALL INTO THE MID 20S. HOWEVER...URBAN...COASTAL AND LOCATIONS NEAR BODIES OF WATER WILL NOT SPEND ENOUGH TIME BELOW 25 DEGREES TO SUPPORT A HARD FREEZE WARNING. DURING THE DAY ON WEDNESDAY...TEMPERATURES WARM INTO THE MID 50S WITH OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE UPPER 20S TO LOW 30S. LET THE WARM UP BEGIN!!
