Short Term Discussion

COLD TEMPERATURES TO CONTINUE THROUGH THE WEEKEND... SHORT TERM (TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT)...DEEP TROUGH WILL REMAIN IN PLACE OVER THE EASTERN CONUS THROUGH THE WEEKEND AND KEEP THE COLD AIR LOCKED IN PLACE. TEMPERATURES THIS AFTERNOON HAVE GENERALLY STABILIZED IN THE MID TO UPPER 30S UNDER INTENSE COLD AIR ADVECTION. THE ADVECTION WILL CONTINUE OVERNIGHT WITH TEMPERATURES DROPPING INTO THE LOWER 20S...DESPITE A DECENT DECK OF HIGH CLOUDS AND SFC WINDS TO RESTRICT RADATIONAL COOLING. WINDS WILL BE AN ISSUE OVERNIGHT WITH SPEEDS FORECAST TO REMAIN AROUND 10 MPH. THIS WILL LEAD TO WIND CHILLS INTO THE SINGLE DIGITS AND LOWER TEENS ACROSS THE ENTIRE FORECAST AREA. A WIND CHILL ADVISORY AS WELL AS A HARD FREEZE ADVISORY WILL BE NECESSARY TONIGHT. THE COLD AIR ADVECTION WILL CONTINUE SATURDAY AS ANOTHER SHORTWAVE DROPS INTO THE BASE OF THE MEAN TROUGH. DESPITE CLEARING SKIES...THE COLD NORTHERLY FLOW BARELY ALLOWS AFTERNOON TEMPS TO REACH INTO THE 40S. THE UPPER LEVELS SHOULD DRY OUT SATURDAY NIGHT BEHIND THE SHORTWAVE...BUT WINDS ARE NOT EXPECTED TO DECOUPLE WITH THE SFC HIGH REMAINING WELL TO THE WEST. EXPECT ANOTHER...PRIMARILY ADVECTION...HARD FREEZE BY SUNDAY MORNING WITH LOW TEMPS A DEGREE OR TWO LOWER THAN SATURDAY MORNING. AFTER ANOTHER CHILLY AFTERNOON SUNDAY WITH HIGHS IN THE 40S...TEMPERATURES WILL DROP RAPIDLY OVERNIGHT WITH THE SFC HIGH EDGING CLOSE TO THE FORECAST AREA. WINDS MAY DECOUPLE BY MONDAY MORNING...POSSIBLY LEADING TO THE COLDEST TEMPERATURES OF THE ARCTIC OUTBREAK. MID TEENS ARE CURRENTLY FORECAST...ALTHOUGH ISOLATED LOWER VALUES WILL BE POSSIBLE.
