National Weather Summary Dec 31

Active weather pressed through the eastern third of the country
to end the year. The front and low pressure system that caused all
of the precipitation eventually moved off the eastern seaboard and
into the Atlantic Ocean, allowing precipitation in the Southeast
and Mid-Atlantic to cease. A swath of rain and snow also progressed
through New England, but it also diminished in the afternoon.
Meanwhile in the West, a Pacific storm slammed into the Northwest, renewing rain and high elevation snow in Washington and Oregon. Windy conditions also accompanied this storm, and thus various wind advisories were posted in the area.
A long, but mostly weak cold front also swept through the middle portion of the country. Due to the lack of moisture associated with this front, only a few areas of rain and snow were observed in Oklahoma and Texas.
The Northeast rose into the 20s and 30s, while the Southeast saw temperatures in the 40s, 50s, and 60s. The Northern Plains rose into the 0s and 10s, while the Northwest saw temperatures in the 30s and 40s.
