WE DID SEE A NOCTURNAL SURGE LAST NIGHT UP TO 16 KNOTS ACROSS THE MARINE AREA AS THE GRADIENT TIGHTENED IN THE EASTERLY FLOW. PERSISTENCE WOULD ARGUE A SIMILAR RESULT...OR SLIGHTLY STRONGER. HOWEVER...WITH THE APPROACHING TROPICAL WAVE...THE GRADIENT MAY LOOSEN JUST ENOUGH AND SHIFT NORTHEASTERLY (A MORE UNFAVORABLE DIRECTION FOR SURGES) AND LEAD TO LIGHTER WINDS. WILL SPLIT THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THESE TWO POSSIBILITIES TONIGHT. BY WEDNESDAY NIGHT...CONDITIONS LOOK MORE FAVORABLE FOR A NIGHTLY SURGE. COULD POSSIBLY SEE VALUES INTO BORDERLINE EXERCISE CAUTION CRITERIA...SO WILL NEED TO MONITOR THIS CLOSELY. THE EASTERLY FLOW WILL BEGIN TO BREAK DOWN BY THE WEEKEND AS A STORM SYSTEM APPROACHES FROM THE WEST.
