QUITMAN, Texas (AP) - Authorities in eastern Texas say a legally blind woman died after being swept away by flood waters while walking to a relative's home.
Forty-four-year-old Mary Frame attempted to cross a bridge over flooded waters Monday in northeastern Wood County, about 80 miles east of Dallas.
Sheriff Billy Wansley told KLTV that Frame apparently didn't realize the waters were at a dangerously high level.
Nearby county workers attempted to rescue the woman. They say she grabbed a rope that was thrown, but couldn't hold on.
Area thunderstorms had quickly produced three to four inches of rain.
Officials reported flooding and high-water rescues, mostly of people who'd driven vehicles in to standing water.
