MIAMI (AP) - Forecasters say Fred is losing steam in the middle
of the Atlantic, while Linda has dissipated in the Pacific.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami said Saturday that Fred's
maximum sustained winds had dropped to near 45 mph (75 kph) and the
storm is nearly stationary.
Fred is centered about 645 miles (1,040 km) west-northwest of
the Cape Verde Islands. The storm is expected to continue to weaken
during the next two days and could become a remnant low by Sunday
In the Pacific, Linda was no longer a tropical cyclone. The
remnant low was moving toward the west-northwest near 5 mph (8kph).
Linda's maximum sustained winds were near 35 mph.
