MIAMI (AP) - Hurricane Fred is weakening far from land over the Atlantic and Tropical Storm Linda continues to lose strength in the Pacific.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami said Friday that Hurricane Fred had maximum sustained winds near 80 mph and was barely moving. Forecasters said earlier that Fred was expected to weaken to a tropical storm by Friday night.
Fred is centered about 740 miles west-northwest of the Cape Verde Islands and moving north near 1 mph.
In the Pacific, Tropical Storm Linda's maximum sustained winds have dropped to near 45 mph. Forecasters say Linda will likely weaken to a tropical depression by Saturday.
Linda is centered about 1,355 miles west of the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California peninsula.
