MIAMI (AP) - Hurricane Fred continues to weaken in
the Atlantic as is Tropical Storm Linda far out in the Pacific.
Hurricane Fred has maximum sustained winds near 85 mph (140 kph) early Friday and is expected to weaken to a tropical storm by Friday night.
Fred is centered about 745 miles (1,195 kilometers) west of the Cape Verde Islands and moving north near 3 mph (6 kph).
In the Pacific, Tropical Storm Linda's maximum sustained winds have dropped to near 50 mph (85 kph). Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami say Linda will likely weaken to a
tropical depression by Saturday.
Linda is centered about 1,360 miles (2,185 kilometers) west of the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California peninsula.
