TOKYO (AP) - There are minor injuries reported after a powerful quake rocked Tokyo and nearby areas shortly after dawn.
The U.S. Geological Survey says another, unrelated quake hit the Indian Ocean with a 7.6-magnitude. A tsunami watch was issued for several Asian countries but has since been lifted.
In Japan, Kyodo reports Central Japan Railway has stopped running its bullet trains. Local trains have been shut down for
safety checks and nuclear reactors were shut down to check for
damage. None was reported.
The quake rattled furniture and walls and broke show windows and ceramic roof tiles on older homes. A tsunami warning issued after the jolt has been lifted.
The quake hit as Japan deals with typhoon rains. Officials are warning residents in mountainous areas to be cautious because
ground may be loose and landslides unleashed by temblors.
