Heat advisory in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 6 PM CDT
this evening.

The National Weather Service in Tallahassee has issued a heat
advisory... which is in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 6 PM
CDT this evening.

A large ridge of high pressure at the surface and aloft will shift
further to the west today. However... another round of temperatures
near record levels can be expected today especially those areas
closest to the ridge... namely southeast Alabama and the Florida
Panhandle. The combination of a humid airmass and these very hot
afternoon temperatures of 97 to 102 degrees will result in a
period of heat indices that will approach or reach 110 degrees
during the afternoon. Areas of southern Georgia and the Florida
Big Bend will begin to cool slightly and heat advisories should
remain below advisory criteria. With the ridge moving further west
on Tuesday... today should be the last day for the issuance of heat
advisories this week.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity
will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are
possible. Drink plenty of fluids... stay in an air-conditioned
room... stay out of the sun... and check up on relatives and
