CALCUTTA, India (AP) - Officials say the death toll from Cyclone Aila that battered eastern India and Bangladesh in recent days has risen to at least 159.
Ashok Mohan Chakraborty, a senior official in India's West
Bengal state, says at least 68 people have been confirmed killed.
Bangladesh's Food and Disaster Management Ministry said the toll
there was 91 on Wednesday after more bodies were discovered.
While the cyclone has eased, heavy rains continue to lash the region, causing mudslides and hampering rescue efforts. Tens of
thousands of people have been evacuated to safer areas.
