Coastal South Carolina Fire Update

Fire now 40 percent contained

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - The huge wildfire that has destroyed at least 70 homes in South Carolina is said to be 40
percent contained.
A spokeswoman for the state's Forestry Commission says crews have used plows to hold off a portion of the fire and things are secure for now.
But she adds "that could all go out the window" if winds start blowing Friday.
Along with the homes that were leveled, another 100 have been damaged. Much of the damage has been concentrated at Barefoot Resort, a complex of houses, condominiums and golf courses
separated from the main route through Myrtle Beach by the
Intracoastal Waterway.
Officials don't know yet what sparked the fire. No injuries have been reported.
