NATIONAL WEATHER SUMMARY:
Across the eastern U.S., a cold front produced some
thunderstorms across southern Florida during the morning hours.
Miami Beach picked up 0.41 inches of rain. During the afternoon,
showers and thunderstorms pushed across southern Mississippi,
Alabama, Georgia, and the Florida panhandle. Nothing severe was
reported. Further north, afternoon thunderstorms developed from
North Carolina to New York state. Numerous hail reports were noted
with these thunderstorms. Storm gusts knocked down trees and power
lines across southern Maryland. Meanwhile, a couple rounds of heavy
rains and embedded thunderstorms pushed across the Northeast. New
York city and Boston both picked up a little over an inch of rain
yesterday.
For the central U.S., a low pressure continued to spread rain and snow across the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley. Snow fell across Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. Amounts across Wisconsin were generally less than an inch and winds were gusty, between 25 and 35 mph. Heavier snows were found across Upper Michigan again
yesterday. An additional 4 to 10 inches fell, increasing storm
totals in some locations of Michigan to over 15 inches. Rockland,
MI reported the highest storm total of 23.1 inches. The snow
tapered off overnight.
In the West, a pronounced ridge of high pressure continued to provide warm and dry conditions. Record breaking temperatures were again found across California, Oregon, Nevada, and Washington. Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Jose all reported record highs again. The temperature in Phoenix hit the century mark for the first time this year.

ON THIS DATE IN HISTORY:
In 1874, a late spring cold snap across the Northern Plains sent the mercury plummeting down to 23 degrees in the Twin Cities.
In 1883, Beauregard, MS was destroyed by a massive tornado. This was part of a tornado outbreak from Louisiana to Kansas that claimed 200 lives that day.
In 1987, the afternoon high in Pensacola, FL hit 96 degrees, establishing a new record for April. Fifteen cities across the
southeastern U.S. reported new record high temperatures for the
date.
