Dangerous Storms Threaten South, Tennessee Valley

The outbreak of dangerous severe weather that got underway late Thursday will continue today. The South and Tennessee Valley will become the targets of the intense thunderstorms.

The outbreak of dangerous severe weather that got underway late Thursday will continue today. The South and Tennessee Valley will become the targets of the intense thunderstorms.

This morning is starting with a line of strong thunderstorms through the eastern Tennessee Valley. This will be the first of two rounds of severe weather for these areas today.

More intense thunderstorms will ignite over the western Tennessee Valley later in the morning. These thunderstorms will press through the rest of the Tennessee Valley into this evening. Afternoon thunderstorms will also develop over the central Gulf Coast.

Bowling Green, Ky.; Nashville, Tenn.; Montgomery, Ala.; and New Orleans, La., are among the cities, towns and rural areas today's severe weather will threaten.

The powerful thunderstorms will shift to southern Virginia, the Carolinas and Georgia tonight. This includes Augusta, Ga., where the Masters Golf Tournament is currently underway.

Damaging winds, hail and blinding downpours will continue to accompany the strongest thunderstorms through tonight. Several tornadoes could touch down and cause destruction. You should take immediate action if a storm-related warning is issued for your area.
