ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - An ash plume more than 9 miles high is rising from Alaska's Mount Redoubt volcano following four eruptions overnight.
Using radar and satellite technology, the National Weather
Service is predicting ash to start falling later today.
Current winds are pushing the cloud away from Anchorage, Alaska's largest city, toward the north, northeast and Mount McKinley, North America's largest mountain in Denali National Park.
Dave Stricklan of the National Weather Service expects a light dusting of very fine ash. He says much of the ash probably dropped immediately, right down the side of the volcano.
The 10,200-foot volcano, roughly 100 miles southwest of
Anchorage, last erupted during a four-month period from 1989-90.
