MORE DEATHS OCCUR DUE TO FLOODING EACH YEAR THAN FROM ANY OTHER
SEVERE WEATHER RELATED HAZARD. MANY OF THESE DEATHS ARE A RESULT OF
CARELESS OR UNSUSPECTING MOTORISTS WHO ATTEMPT TO DRIVE THROUGH
FLOODED ROADS. TURN AROUND DON'T DROWN...OR TADD...IS A JOINT

ALLIANCE FOR SAFE HOMES TO WARN PEOPLE OF THE HAZARDS OF WALKING OR
DRIVING THROUGH FLOOD WATERS.

HEED THESE SAFETY RULES DURING FLOOD EVENTS...

MONITOR NOAA WEATHER RADIO OR MEDIA OUTLETS FOR FLOOD WATCHES...
WARNINGS AND STATEMENTS.

IF FLOODING OCCURS...GET TO HIGHER GROUND. EVACUATE FLOOD PRONE
AREAS.

AVOID AREAS ALREADY FLOODED. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS RAPIDLY FLOWING
CREEKS AND STREAMS. IT TAKES ONLY SIX INCHES OF WATER FOR A VEHICLE
TO LOSE CONTACT WITH THE ROAD...AND 18 TO 24 INCHES OF WATER TO
SWEEP MOST VEHICLES AWAY.

FLOODED ROADS MAY HAVE HIDDEN DANGERS...SUCH AS WASHED OUT ROAD BEDS
OR UNDERWATER OBSTRUCTIONS.

DO NOT CAMP OR PARK YOUR VEHICLE ALONG CREEKS...STREAMS AND LOW
SPOTS WHEN FLOODING IS IMMINENT.

BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS MORE DIFFICULT TO
RECOGNIZE FLOOD DANGERS.
