A flood warning continues for the Choctawhatchee river at Caryville from late Friday until further notice or until the warning is cancelled.

Flood stage for the river is 12 feet and minor flooding is forecast.

The river is expected to rise above flood stage by saturday morning and is expected to continue to rise to near 14.2 feet by Monday morning.

When the water reaches 16 feet, Highway 279 south of Caryville will be cut off and several fishing camps, residential areas and additional rural roads could be flooded.

The Washington County Emergency Management Office and the Board of County Commissioners continue to monitor the situation at Caryville.

Those with interests along the River should take necessary precautions to protect life and property.

Roads will likely be impacted by the rising waters, therefore extreme caution while traveling is advised.

Avoid driving through standing water. If you feel you are unsafe or may be cut off for a period of time, consider evacuating to higher ground until waters recede.
