Long Term Forecast Discussion

LONG TERM (SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY)...THE AXIS OF A DEEPENING MID/UPPER TROUGH WILL SWING ACROSS THE TRI-STATE REGION SATURDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT. AS THE TROUGH MOVES OFF THE EAST COAST ON SUNDAY, THE FLOW BECOMES ZONAL AND THEN BACKS TO THE SOUTHWEST ON MONDAY AS THE NEXT SHORT WAVE MOVES INTO THE LOWER MS VALLEY. THIS SHORT WAVE IS FORECAST TO DAMPEN OUT AS THE ENERGY MOVES INTO THE MID-ATLANTIC STATES TUESDAY MAINTAINING LOCAL SOUTHWEST FLOW BEFORE BECOMING MORE ZONAL AGAIN ON WEDNESDAY. FOLLOWING THE COLD FRONTAL PASSAGE AND ITS ASSOCIATED CLOUDS AND SHWRS ON SATURDAY, SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE WITH A DRIER AIR MASS BUILDS INTO THE CWA FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE WEEKEND INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK. HOWEVER, WITH ZONAL FLOW ALOFT, ONLY SLIGHT COOLING IS EXPECTED. THEN, A STRONGER SURFACE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IS POISED TO MOVE ACROSS THE SOUTH ON TUESDAY DRAGGING ANOTHER COLD FRONT ACROSS THE CWA WITH SCATTERED SHWRS/TSTMS FOR TUESDAY NIGHT AND WEDNESDAY.
