Gustav Leaves Little Impact on Florida

TALLAHASSEEE, Fla. (AP) - Gov. Charlie Crist and state emergency
officials say early reports show Hurricane Gustav has had little
effect on Florida, although tornado watches remain in effect for
several Panhandle counties.

Florida is providing limited assistance to other Gulf Coast states as officials nervously watch the potential path of Tropical Storm Hanna churning in the Atlantic.

Florida has 9,000 National Guardsmen on high alert and sent a transport plane to assist with medical evacuations over the weekend.

A Miami urban search and rescue team and a disaster medical assistance team were also headed to the Gulf.

State emergency management director Craig Fugate said, "we wanted to make sure we are ready for other storms and then provide assistance we can."
