Officials Watch north Florida Rivers as Waters Rise in Fay's Wake
Tallahassee, Fla. (AP) - Several rivers in the Tallahassee area are at or above flood stage as the result of the heavy rain that Tropical Storm Fay dumped on the area this weekend.
The Ochlockonee River -- which runs north and west of the capital -- was running anywhere from 3 to almost 9 feet above flood stage.
Voluntary evacuations were issued for residents who live along the river, but some people here are used to the flooding that comes with tropical systems and decided to ride this one out.
Highway officials are keeping an eye on bridges across the river and are prepared to shut them down if the water level gets too high.
