2012 Atlantic Hurricane Season Officially Ends Today

2012 Atlantic Tropical Season Quick Facts:

* 10 Hurricanes

* 1 Major Hurricane

* Two named storms developed before the offical start of the season, which last occured in 1908.

* Tied with four other previous years as third-most active in recorded/known Atlantic history.

* Strongest Storm: Michael (115 mph winds at peak strength)

* Weakest Storm To Be Named: Joyce (40 mph winds at peak strength)

Today marks the end of hurricane season.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, this year's Atlantic Hurricane season produced 19 named storms.
The average is usually 12.

Hurricane Isaac was one of 10 named storms that were also hurricanes -- a number also above average.

Only one storm became a major hurricane, below the usual three.

Based on all that activity the 2012 Atlantic Hurricane season has been classified as "above-normal."
