The ma-Chis Lower Creek Indian Tribe of Alabama Pow Wow. A colorful event where both our Tribal Members and Non-Native American meet to dance, sing, and socialize to honor our American Indian Culture.

During his youth, Grand Ole Opry Star Lew Childre got his start singing in Downtown Opp on Saturday afternoons.
It is again time for future stars to shine on Main Street. As a tribute to Lew Childre, a steel guitar concert is held in his honor. This is the 5th Annual Lew Childre Steel Guitar Concert.
We are proud to have live performances Leona Williams, Billy Robinson, Ron Williams, Lynn Owsley, Jimmy Powell, Brenda Allen, Joe Wright, John LeMaster, Gordon Dobson, and Harlan Burton. If you are a fan of country, folk, bluegrass, and the sounds of a steel guitar we will see you on May 4th in Opp, AL. Tickets are $10 and children 6 and under are free. Bring the entire family for a fun and musical Saturday.

Fire Ant Management Workshop

Has your yard, pasture, or hay field been invaded by fire ants? Have you struggled to find a way to keep them under control? Are you confused by all the different products available that claim to kill fire ants? If so, this event is for you! The Alabama Cooperative Extension System will be hosting a Regional Fire Ant Management Workshop at Cattleman Park in Troy on Saturday, May 4th from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Extension agents and specialists will cover the topics of fire ant biology, bait products vs. insecticides, recommended control practices, and will also conduct a hands-on demonstration on spreader calibration. This program is open anyone who battles fire ants! To register, please call the Pike County Extension Office at (334) 566-0985. There is no charge for this program! Lunch will be provided.
