Deputy Bill Myers passed away 22 Sept 2015 . Local law enforcement risk their lives on a daily basis to protect and serve our community. Militia Fitness wants to honor Deputy Myers and show its support and gratitude for all local law enforcement. We will be hosting. 'Lift To Remember'. October 10th. 8-11am at the Reebok store located in the Silver Sands Outlets. This competition will consist of partners (2 athletes. M/M. F/F. M/F). All proceeds will go to OCSO Star Charities. Earmarked only for his family.

The registration is $20 per team. After the event all members will have until 10am to shop inside the store with only militia members there. Everything will be 30% off at Reebok for all people attending the event. There will be scaling options available upon registration. Overall RX team will receive a free pair of Reebok shoes. Remember, this is a workout to honor Deputy Myers and all the individuals who support our community. Lets get together and show them our love and support!!! Register quickly. Mixxedfit Classes

Dothan Leisure Services will now be offering Mixxedfit Classes at Walton Park (122 Walton Park Dr.).

Mixxedfit is an Explosive Dance Fitness Class that is boot camp inspired.

Classes will be each Monday from 6-7pm beginning October 26, 2015, and cost is $5 per class.

Montessori Madness 5K and Fun Run

Dothan Montessori School is hosting its third annual “Montessori Madness 5K and Fun Run” on November 7. DMS is located at 205 Holly Lane in Dothan, and the race begins at 8:00 a.m. There will be goody bags, door prizes, a child’s fun run, and more! DMS is the only local non-profit, non-denominational Montessori school in the Wiregrass.

36th Southern Region Open Karate Tournament

The Department of Leisure Services and the World Yoshukai Karate School will host the 36th Annual Southern Region Open Karate Tournament on Saturday, October 31st at the Dothan Civic Center.

Registration for participants will be held on October 31st from 8:30-10:00 a.m. at the Dothan Civic Center on the ground floor. Competition will begin at 10:00 a.m. There is a $50 registration fee. Spectators are welcome and there will be an admission charge of $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 6-12.

This year’s Tournament Host is Mike Culbreth, 8th Degree Black Belt and Hiroaki Toyama, 8th Degree Black Belt and Directors of the World Yoshukai Karate Kobudo Organization.

Leisure Services Karate Classes

World Yoshukai Karate offers ages 7 and above instruction in traditional Karate, self-defense, physical conditioning, the use of traditional Karate weapons, and respect, manners and discipline. Mike Culbreth, Master Instructor, a 8th degree Black Belt, instructs all classes, as he has for more than 36 years.


Class I: Children Ages 7-12
Tuesdays & Thursdays, 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Fee: $50 per month

Class II: Men & Women Ages 13 & Up
Tuesdays & Thursdays, 5:45-6:45 p.m.
Fee: $50 per month

Registration is held the first week of each month.
