Dothan Camp Choctaw Registration

Arts and crafts, field trips, swimming and games are just a small sample of the activities children will enjoy this summer as participants in the Department of Leisure Services Camp Choctaw.
This Day Camp is for boys and girls ages 6-12 who are looking for fun and interesting ways to keep themselves busy this summer. The camps are held in two-week sessions at Doug Tew Recreation Center.
Registration will be held on Tuesday, May 12th from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at Doug Tew Center. After May 12th, (if spaces are available) you may register at Doug Tew Center from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday - Friday. Each session is limited to 75 participants and registration will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. You may sign up for as many sessions as you would like. Registration fees for all sessions must be paid at the time of registration (cash or check only). No telephone registrations will be accepted unless it is for a waiting list. If you are a first time camper, you must provide a birth certificate when you register.
The registration fee for a two week session is $80.00 and includes all supplies, a camp t-shirt, transportation from designated locations and daily snacks. There will be four two week sessions from which to choose.
The two-week sessions meet Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Bus transportation will be provided from various pick-up points around the city. These pick-up locations will vary from session to session.

Community Recycling Day
Houston County Farm Center
On Saturday, May 9, WRC’s Assured Data Destruction, the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, Discovery Recycling, and WTVY TV 4 will offer residents the opportunity to have their unused outdated electronics (excluding glass-screen TVs and computer monitors), paper records and data storage materials shredded and recycled during a FREE Community Recycling Event. Drop off your items to be recycled or shredded at the Houston County Farm Center Parking Lot from 8:00-11:00 a.m.
This free event aims to raise public awareness of the need to securely destroy confidential material in order to prevent identify theft and fraud, as well as to encourage people to recycle more.
The drop-off event is free and open to the public.
Assured Data Destruction is AAA NAID (National Association for Information Destruction), the highest certification available for the secure document destruction business.

Headland’s Daylily Art & Garden Festival

The event is set for Saturday, May 16, 10am-3pm on the square in downtown Headland.
The festival features an art show inside the park with farmer’s market and garden-related vendors around the square. Entertainment, children’s art activities and gardening demonstrations are planned. Local daylily growers Bush Gardens will also conduct garden tours that day.

National Peanut Festival Fairgrounds in Dothan
SARCOA Older Americans Day Celebration
SARCOA’s annual Older Americans Day celebration will be held May 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the National Peanut Festival Fairgrounds in Dothan. Tickets for the event are free, but must be ordered by 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 6. Attendees must be 60 years or older to qualify for the free lunch and prizes.
Older Americans Day features entertainment, food, prizes and sponsor booths. This year’s theme is “Flower Power.” Talent show participants must pre-register. Event t-shirts are available for purchase.

Calling All Teens! Creative Writing Workshops with Local Author

Teens will be able to express themselves using different genres of writing, ranging from poetry to fiction. These workshops are free, so grab your pen, notepad, and your imagination to make a difference in the world around you. If you know a teen that would love to attend, share this information with them.
