Troy Univ. Small Business Workshops

Troy University’s Small Business Development Center will offer a series of workshops for small business owners at the Alabama Aviation Center in Ozark beginning on July 27.
The workshops, also sponsored by the Ozark Chamber of Commerce, will each be held in room 219 of the Aviation Technical Training Center, located at 3405 S. U.S. 231.
The social media workshop “How to Use Your Facebook Business Page” will kick off the series on July 27 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Small Business Marketing and Social Media Consultant Betsy Baker will address topics such as how Facebook ties into overall online marketing strategy; what, when and how often to post; how to get the most exposure for your page; how to get the most engagement for your page; scheduling posts on Facebook to save you time; and, how you can benefit from Facebook groups. Participants are asked to have a Facebook Page created before this class.

The workshop series will continue on Aug. 5, from 1 to 5 p.m., with QuickBooks Training for Beginners. The hands-on class will cover QuickBooks Desktop versions Pro and Premier. Topics covered in the class include: basic accounting, setting up your company, working with customers and vendors, paying sales taxes, setting up inventory, setting up payroll and paying payroll taxes.

The final workshop of the series is “Introduction to Government Contracting,” which will be held on Sept. 16 from 1 to 3 p.m. Topics covered in the workshop include: researching the government market, registering as a government contractor, special programs and certifications in government contracting and marketing your products and services to the government.

Troy Univ. Summer Send-off Parties
Troy University will host Summer Send-off Parties in locations in Alabama and the Florida Panhandle to welcome new students to the Trojan Nation.
Freshmen and incoming students will meet future classmates and learn more about TROY during the events, which are also open to parents, prospective students, alumni and other friends of TROY.
“Summer Send-Offs are our way of celebrating the new class of TROY Trojans by recognizing them in their home areas with their families and friends,” said Tiffany Schmidt, director of enrollment services. “We also invite high school guidance counselors and prospective students to join us at our send-offs. By prospective students attending, they are able to learn more about the opportunities for them at TROY.”
There is no admission charge for the events and food is free to all who RSVP. Nine send-off parties are scheduled, and new students are invited to register for an event in their area.

Archery Skills Classes
Eastgate Archery Range.
Dothan Leisure Services is offering Olympic-style Archery Skills Classes this summer at Eastgate Archery Range. Class one will be offered June 1-5 and Class two will be offered July 20-24. Time for both classes is 6:00-7:30pm. Cost is $35 per person. Ages 8-Adult.
Register at any recreation center from May 12-29 for the first class, and May 12-July 17 for the 2nd class. (9:00am-4:30pm). Participants 10-18 years of age will be eligible for the Alabama Recreation and Park Association State Championship in Dothan Alabama August 8-9, 2015.
All archery equipment will be provided. Class size will be limited to 20 per class.

Join local author Danielle Wallace at the Dothan-Houston County Library for fun, inspirational creative writing workshops. Teens will be able to express themselves using different genres of writing, ranging from poetry to fiction. These workshops are free, so grab your pen, notepad, and your imagination to make a difference in the world around you. If you know a teen that would love to attend, share this information with them.
