Dothan, AL.: A unique and new original fictional medical novel was published on November 6, 2014 by Black Rose Writing of Castroville, Texas. It concerns a young man’s struggle to overcome all obstacles and become a prominent cardiac physician. He completes duty in Vietnam and experiences the killing of his African-American medical colleague by enemy troops. Climb Up the Steel Mountain keeps the reader interested as there is always something on every page whether it be the doctor’s problems, that of his patients, or his immediate family. The novel includes interesting histories of heart surgery and is unique in that it is based on real people and real events that are fictionalized. It is must reading for all ages from young to old as well as potential physicians. There is also an underlying definite Christian morality included in the book that could be an important lesson to all readers. The descriptions of the surgeries are also very interesting and enlightening.
Len is a long-time resident of Dothan, AL. and has won several awards for his volunteering efforts with RSVP and SARCOA. He was formerly the editor of a local newsletter called The Senior Informer for local seniors for three years and also was prominent in local veteran’s organizations. He is a graduate of the University of Nebraska and is a 21-year veteran of the United States Air Force who served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He also worked in technical management positions in Saudi Arabia for thirteen years. He has written articles for newspapers and magazines and had a short story dramatized on BBC World Service Radio.
