Caitie's Army to Host Fun-Filled Day for Families to Raise Funds for Cancer Patients at Children's of Alabama

A day packed full of family-friendly activities promises great fun for a great cause. The 5th Annual Caitie’s Army Day of Hope Benefit Ride and 5K Run is set for Sept. 26 at the Covington County Fairgrounds (Highway 55 South, Andalusia, Ala. 36420)

Registration for the 5K run opens at 6 a.m. in the Kiwanis Community Center at the fairgrounds; the race begins at 7 a.m.
Motorcycle enthusiasts can register for the benefit ride starting at 9 a.m. with kick stands up at noon. The registration fee for each event is $25 and includes a T-shirt while supplies last.

Other planned activities include arts and crafts displays, bounce houses, pony rides, live entertainment, an auction and door prizes. Arts and crafts booths are available for $25. Brown bag lunches will be available for $5 each.

Caitie’s Army was inspired by Caitie Rhodes of Andalusia, who was diagnosed and treated for brain cancer at Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham. Touched by her story, organizers hold activities and events to raise funds that support The Alabama Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children’s. Last year, the ride raised more than $8,000 for childhood cancer research and to help families like Caitie’s. Caitie will turn 24 this year and has now transitioned to adult care at UAB.
