4th Annual Sickle Cell Walk-a-thon

Saturday September 27, 2014, CAF, in partnership with Kappa Pi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, will hold its 4th Annual Sickle Cell Walk-a-thon at West Gate Park to help raise funds for the Southeast Alabama Sickle Cell Association, Inc. serving individuals and famalies in Houston, Dale, Henry, Barbour, Bullock, Geneva, Lee, Macon, Pike, and Russel counties. Free screening and blood drive will be provided onsite. Walking teams are being formed, but we need more. Registration 7:30 am - 8:15 am. Warm-up 8:15 am. Walk 8:30 am - 10:30 am.

Hispanic Heritage Gate-to-Gate Run

Parking lot by the Daleville Gate on 3rd and Raider
On September 27th, The Fort Rucker Physical Fitness Center will be hosting the annual "Gate to Gate" run in conjunction with Hispanic Heritage Month. Race day registration will be from 7:30 - 8:30 am in the parking lot by the Daleville Gate on 3rd and Raider and the run will begin at 9 am. Participants will be bused to the Ozark gate from the Daleville gate. The last bus will leave at 8:40 am, so participants are encouraged to arrive early. The run begins at the Ozark gate and continues down Andrews Avenue to 3rd Avenue, where runners will turn left and continue to the Daleville gate. Participants are encouraged to pre-register prior to race day and forms will be available at either Physical Fitness Center. Costs will be $20-25 individual and $120-160 for teams. Trophies will be awarded to Overall Male/Female, Master Male/Female, Grandmaster Male/Female, 1st place trophies in 14 age categories and medals for 2nd and 3rd place in 14 age categories; team trophy to 1st place team and streamers for top 10 teams. PorktoberQue

The 3rd annual Oktoberfest and barbecue competition, PorktoberQue, will again be held the last weekend of September at the Houston County Farm Center in Dothan. The event features BBQ teams competing for $7700.00 in prize money under KCBS (Kansas City Barbecue Society) sanctioning and also promotes a German-style Oktoberfest. There are two stages featuring both polka music and contemporary music, an indoor biergarten, a “man cave” with TV’s for watching your favorite football games, a cornhole tournament, free bounce houses for the kids to play on, shopping with vendors and many food-related activities.
