“Community Traditions in the Kitchen and Around the Dinner Table” at Landmark Park’ s Heritage Forums

(DOTHAN--) Landmark Park’s annual “Heritage Forums,” a series of guest speakers offering programs on state and local history, continues on Sunday, July 20 at 3 p.m. with “PLEASE PASS THE FOLKLORE,” presented by Joyce Cauthen.

Cauthen will discuss food traditions and folklore. Her message will center around preparation and the rich customs that go along with the family meal. She will include sayings and stories that are created and passed on at the dinner table. She will give examples of dining traditions from across the state of Alabama. The program concludes with refreshments.

This particular program on kitchen traditions is free to the public and is sponsored by the Alabama Humanities foundation. All programs take place each Sunday in July at 3 p.m. in the Interpretive Center Auditorium at Landmark Park. The final presentation in the series is on July 27. This topic will cover how World War I changed the average Alabamian.

Dothan Education Foundation Joins With Local Sorority Chapters To Host A Regional Sorority Rush Workshop

Dothan Education Foundation has joined with local sorority chapters to host a regional Sorority Rush Workshop for Wiregrass Junior and Senior High School girls. Speakers will be presenting different aspects of the sorority rush process in order to replace nervousness with poise and preparation. Presentations will include a summary of Rush week, basic financial information, a What to Wear Fashion Show, resume organization & recommendation planning. Diverse sorority chapters will be represented and will be available to answer questions that attendees may have. The Rush Workshop will be held in Rotary Hall of the Wiregrass Rehab Center at 6 P.M. on Tuesday, June 10th. The cost is $5 per student and parents are encouraged to attend with no additional charge.
