Join local author Danielle Wallace at the Dothan-Houston County Library for fun, inspirational creative writing workshops. Teens will be able to express themselves using different genres of writing, ranging from poetry to fiction. These workshops are free, so grab your pen, notepad, and your imagination to make a difference in the world around you. If you know a teen that would love to attend, share this information with them.

City of Dothan’s FREE Business Workshop

The City of Dothan will conduct a free business workshop, “How to do Business with the City of Dothan,” on Thursday, April 16, 2015. Those interested in networking should arrive at 5:30pm, with the workshop to follow at 6:00pm. The workshop will be held in the City Commission Chambers located on the 2nd floor of the Dothan Civic Center.

This free workshop is open to all companies. Topics to be covered include: business license, planning & zoning, equal opportunity, professional services, supplies & services used by the city, Alabama Immigration Act, purchasing bidders, and accounts payable vendors. Space is limited.

Dothan 101-Citizen Government Class

Classes will meet at various locations throughout the City
Program Goal: To enhance citizen awareness and understanding of Dothan City Government’s role in the community

• Free to participants; space is limited
• Adult educational program giving an inside look at the City of Dothan and its employees
• Consists of 9-week instruction on the basics of government
• Hands-on experience with City services ranging from water treatment facilities to law enforcement training
• Sessions will include presentations, tours and Q/A period
• Class date and time: Tuesdays, 6:00 – 9:00 PM
• Great for any Dothan resident; committee members; public officials; media, etc...
• Program Coordinator: Anita Robertson, Administration Department
• Instructors: Department Heads/Supervisors/City Manager
• Evaluations given at the end of each session

Citizen Law Enforcement Academy

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce its next Citizen Law Enforcement Academy, which will begin on October 9, 2014. For citizens who want a truly eye opening experience about law enforcement, this is where it all starts. Participants will spend about three hours in a class room once a week for approximately 10 weeks. The Citizen Law Enforcement Academy is a great program for any citizen who wishes to learn more about the field of law enforcement and the Walton County Sheriff’s Office. The class is FREE and will take place at the Sheriff’s Office Administration building located at 752 Triple G Road, DeFuniak Springs.
