SARCOA Older Americans Day Celebration

SARCOA’s annual Older Americans Day celebration will be held May 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the National Peanut Festival Fairgrounds in Dothan. Tickets for the event are free, but must be ordered by 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 6. Attendees must be 60 years or older to qualify for the free lunch and prizes.

Older Americans Day features entertainment, food, prizes and sponsor booths. This year’s theme is “Flower Power.” Talent show participants must pre-register. Event t-shirts are available for purchase.

Chipola Feather Fest

Chipola Feather Fest offers an opportunity to view an exciting number of birds unique to Jackson County and surrounding area. A variety of field trips are planned for three mornings at various hot spots in the area. Lunch at food trucks and then afternoon workshops at Chipola College and evening guest speakers and entertainment. Mark your calendar for the three day event April 24-26, 2015.

Enjoy the beautiful Florida Panhandle, home to the world's largest population of Red-cockaded Woodpeckers. There are many other sought after birds, animals and plants in the area such as Bachman's Sparrow, Swallow-tailed Kite, Mississippi Kite, Swainson's Warbler, Least Bittern, Purple Gallinule, Gopher Tortoise, Fox Squirrel, American Alligator, and endangered pitcher plants.

Alzheimer’s – A Faith Perspective

New Hall at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 123 Health St, in Enterprise
Alzheimer’s – A Faith Perspective is a support and education program to help family members, caregivers and others understand and cope with the effects of Alzheimer’s and other dementia diseases.

The thirteen-week program will meet every 1st and 3rd Thursday beginning on Thursday, March 19, and continuing through September. The meetings will be at 7:00 pm in the New Hall at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 123 Health St, in Enterprise. Meetings are free and open to the public.

Using faith as the foundation for helping those dealing with Alzheimer’s, the sessions will include themes such as managing fear and pain, finding purpose, asking for help, and living in the present moment.
