The Alabama Cooperative Extension System will be hosting an Organic Vegetable Production Meeting on May 8th at the Houston County Extension office from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Extension Agents and Specialists, including Dr. Ayanava Majumdar, Dr. Jean Weese, and Bridgette Brannon will be presenting information on Insect Identification, Chemical and Cultural Control, Food Safety, Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), and more. The cost is $10. This program is open to anyone from home gardeners to small producers. Pre-registration and payment is required by Monday, May 6th. Fire Ant Management Workshop
Cattleman Park, Troy
Has your yard, pasture, or hay field been invaded by fire ants? Have you struggled to find a way to keep them under control? Are you confused by all the different products available that claim to kill fire ants? If so, this event is for you! The Alabama Cooperative Extension System will be hosting a Regional Fire Ant Management Workshop at Cattleman Park in Troy on Saturday, May 4th from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Extension agents and specialists will cover the topics of fire ant biology, bait products vs. insecticides, recommended control practices, and will also conduct a hands-on demonstration on spreader calibration.
