Empty Bowls Dothan 2015

Date(s): 2/28/2015

Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015 - 11am until 2pm

Dothan Cultural Arts Center
Empty Bowls Dothan helps support hunger relief in the Wiregrass. Bowls created and donated by the community will be sold at the Cultural Arts Center from 11a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015. For $10 each, attendees will receive a bowl of their choice and a basic meal of soup, bread, and water. All funds raised from the sale of the bowls will go to the Wiregrass Area United Way Food Bank.

The majority of the bowl-making sessions are held at the Cultural Art Center to showcase what a valuable community resource the center is and to offer the community “hands on” access to its benefits. The CAC will house the Empty Bowls Dothan event and the event’s art show and silent auction. Proceeds from the art show and silent auction will benefit the Cultural Art Center. The project’s founding potter, Lynn Koning, offers pottery classes at the CAC, and a variety of other arts classes are offered at the center as well.

If you’d like to support Empty Bowls Dothan, there are many ways to get involved. You can attend the event on Feb. 28 and purchase soup bowls and other wares to benefit the Food Bank and support the Cultural Art Center. If you miss the event, don’t worry! As soon as the 2015 event is wrapped up plans will be underway for 2016. Visit the project’s Facebook page – Facebook.com/EmptyBowlsDothan – to get the latest news on the project. Call the Cultural Arts Center at 334-699-2787 to sign your group up for a bowl making or glazing session. The project needs bowl makers and no experience is required! During your session, a representative will meet with your group, explain the Empty Bowls project, and assist participants in hand-building pottery bowls to be donated for the February event. For all workshops, the materials will be provided at no cost to the group thanks to Five Star Credit Union, Empty Bowls Dothan’s presenting sponsor.

Please help make Empty Bowls Dothan a success for this community. Every “Empty Bowls Dothan” bowl that sells for $10 will provide 87 meals to help feed the hungry in the Wiregrass. Make a bowl and make a difference!
