The Walton County Sheriff’s Office is putting on the Teen Driver Challenge September 25th and 26th. It will take place at Freeport High School. Friday’s hours will be from 5pm-9pm and Saturday will be 8am-5pm. Lunch will be provided to those participating on Saturday and there is no cost for the class.

36th Southern Region Open Karate Tournament

Dothan Civic Center
The Department of Leisure Services and the World Yoshukai Karate School will host the 36th Annual Southern Region Open Karate Tournament on Saturday, October 31st at the Dothan Civic Center.
Registration for participants will be held on October 31st from 8:30-10:00 a.m. at the Dothan Civic Center on the ground floor. Competition will begin at 10:00 a.m. There is a $50 registration fee. Spectators are welcome and there will be an admission charge of $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 6-12.
This year’s Tournament Host is Mike Culbreth, 8th Degree Black Belt and Hiroaki Toyama, 8th Degree Black Belt and Directors of the World Yoshukai Karate Kobudo Organization.

Martial Arts for Children’s Hosp.

Dothan Martial Arts Academy will host Martial Arts for Children’s of Alabama on Saturday, Sept. 19, noon till 3 p.m., at the Wiregrass Commons Mall Center Court (900 Commons Drive, Dothan 36303.)
The event will highlight the skills of the academy’s martial arts and tae kwon do students. In the weeks prior to the event, students have gathered sponsors who have pledged $10 for each board the student breaks during the demonstration. All proceeds benefit The Alabama Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children’s where Libby Claire Rushing of Dothan has received treatment for neuroblastoma, a rare disease in which a solid tumor is formed by special nerve cells called neuroblasts.
Families from the Wiregrass Region made more than 8,100 trips to Children’s last year. In addition, 90 percent of the youngsters in Alabama who are diagnosed with cancer are treated at Children’s.

Cost? = $5 for adults and free for children under age 12
We expect to have about 100 vendor tables, large operating model train layouts, concessions, and door prizes
An outdoor train ride will be available for a small additional charge,
This is sort of a special show for us because it is our 25th year.

Wiregrass Museum of Art
'Real Lives : Observations and Reflections by Dale Kennington' opens to the public July 17th and runs through September 26th. Organized by The Friends of the Mennello Museum of American Art in Orlando, this traveling exhibition presents Ms. Kennington's masterful grasp of the post-modern aesthetic through her paintings depicting scenes of everyday life.
