4th Emergency Preparedness Fair and Safety Saturday

Date(s): 9/5/2015

Saturday, September 5, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The Enterprise Civic Center
The Coffee County EMA/HS Office and the Coffee County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), is hosting the “4th Annual Emergency Preparedness Fair and Safety Saturday” Saturday, September 5, 2015 at our new location - the Enterprise Civic Center - from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The fun filled family day event is designed to raise awareness about home safety and individual emergency preparedness.

The preparedness and safety event features several awareness displays and demonstrations to help citizens see how a few simple steps now can increase safety and emergency preparedness in homes, businesses and communities throughout the county. Emergency response vehicles and resources, such as the mobile command post, hazardous materials vehicles and the Enterprise Fire Department’s “Fire Safety House” will be on site. We will also have a “Don’t Text and Drive Simulator” sponsored by Mitchell Hyundai and State Farm Insurance that graphically shows the dangers of texting while driving.

Free safety preparedness “how to” literature such as how to build an emergency supply kit and develop a family emergency communications plan will be distributed. Information regarding fire safety and prevention as well as information on preparing for natural disasters such as floods and tornadoes will be available. Upcoming training opportunities which promote community preparedness such as first aid, CPR and storm spotting classes will be announced.

The Emergency Preparedness Fair and Safety Saturday is part of National Preparedness Month (September) which is a “whole community” approach to disaster response. As part of the month’s activities, CC EMA and CC CERT and one our corporate sponsors, Mitchell Hyundai, are sponsoring a poster contest open to all children in grades 1-6 who live in Coffee County. The theme for this year is “Don’t Wait – Communicate: Make Your Emergency Plan Today,” focusing on taking simple, but potentially life-saving steps to enhance preparedness. The following rules concerning the posters must be followed:
• Posters can be NO LARGER than 11 x 14
• Posters should be submitted on quality poster illustration board or heavy paper
• Entries must use crayons, magic markers, or colored pencils only. Posters with stencils, computer-generated or traced letters or images, or commercial stick on letters or images will not be accepted.
• Posters must have the following clearly printed or attached to the back:
o Contestant’s name
o Age
o Grade Level
o School name and address
o Parent/guardian names, address, and telephone number
Poster must arrive at the CC EMA Office no later than September 4th to be considered for this contest.
