These workshops are free, so grab your pen, notepad, and your imagination to make a difference in the world around you. Guest speakers include Senator Harri Anne Smith, Mayor MIke Schmitz, Sheriff Donald Valenza, Dothan Police and Fire Chiefs and former VFW State Commander Ed Pritchard.

The fun filled family day event is designed to raise awareness about home safety and individual emergency preparedness.
The preparedness and safety event features awareness displays and demonstrations to help citizens see how a few simple steps now can increase safety and emergency preparedness in homes, businesses and communities throughout the county.
Emergency response vehicles and resources, such as the mobile command post, hazardous materials vehicles, Police/Fire/EMS vehicles, Search and Rescue Dogs will be on site. Free safety preparedness "how to" literature such as how to build an emergency supply kit and develop a family emergency communications plan will be distributed.

Wiregrass Model Railroad Show

National Peanut Festival Fairgrounds, 5622 US Hwy 231 South, three miles south of Dothan
Vendors from throughout the Southeast will display more than 100 tables of train –related merchandise and several large model railroad layouts will be in operation. The show will also feature door prizes and concessions both days. An outdoor train ride for children will be offered for a small additional charge on both days, weather permitting.
Admission is $5.00 for adults and free for children under age 12.

Archaeology Day

Organizations throughout the panhandle are teaming up for a fun-filled day of activities to educate the public and children of all ages about archaeological and historical resources.
The Florida Public Archaeology Network, University of West Florida, the Panhandle Pioneer Settlement and the Panhandle Archaeological Society at Tallahassee will host a Public Archaeology Day at the Panhandle Pioneer Settlement from 12 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2014. The Panhandle Pioneer Settlement is located in Sam Atkins Park in Blountstown, Fla.
Archaeologists will be on-hand to provide general information about archaeology, historic preservations, and heritage tourism, as well as identify artifacts from the public’s personal collections. They will also bring authentic artifacts to share. Additionally, there will be craftsmen and vendors.

This event is free and open to the public!

Hank Kennedy from DHS class of '65 wants all that were members of the first football team and cheerleaders in 1965 to be apart of the celebration that will take place on September 26, 2014 commemorating the first game every played in Rip Hewes Stadium 50 years ago on September 26, 1964! Hispanic Heritage Gate-to-Gate Run

On September 27th, The Fort Rucker Physical Fitness Center will be hosting the annual "Gate to Gate" run in conjunction with Hispanic Heritage Month. Race day registration will be from 7:30 - 8:30 am in the parking lot by the Daleville Gate on 3rd and Raider and the run will begin at 9 am. Participants will be bused to the Ozark gate from the Daleville gate. The last bus will leave at 8:40 am, so participants are encouraged to arrive early. The run begins at the Ozark gate and continues down Andrews Avenue to 3rd Avenue, where runners will turn left and continue to the Daleville gate. Participants are encouraged to pre-register prior to race day and forms will be available at either Physical Fitness Center. Costs will be $20-25 individual and $120-160 for teams. Trophies will be awarded to Overall Male/Female, Master Male/Female, Grandmaster Male/Female, 1st place trophies in 14 age categories and medals for 2nd and 3rd place in 14 age categories; team trophy to 1st place team and streamers for top 10 teams.
