To enter a Rose Bloom you should be at the church between 7:30 - 10:00 AM the morining of the show to register your bloom. You should know the Classification and the Name of the rose bloom. If you are not sure of the classification, there will be someone at the show to help you with that info. The National Day of Prayer was created in 1952 by Congress and exists to mobilize America’s Christian community to pray for its leaders and families. The day is a Judeo Christian expression affirming the belief that our country was birthed in prayer and in reverence for God.
Keynote Speaker for the event will be Andy McMullian, State of Florida Division of Retirement Director for many years. Andy was born in the Dellwood Community along with three siblings, Amos, Saunders & Cherry. He followed the path of many Marianna High School graduates, attending Chipola and then Florida State University.
A complimentary breakfast will be served at 6:30 a.m. followed by the program at 7:00. An additional treat will be the Riverside Elementary School Children’s Choir.

Homeless Stand Down/Connect

Help us help the homeless. The Southeast Alabama Coalition for the Homeless (SEACH) will sponsor a Homeless Stand Down/Connect event on Saturday, May 17, 2014. The event will be hosted by United Christian Fellowship Dothan at 208 East Lafayette St., Dothan, Alabama from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The Homeless Stand Down/Connect will provide assistance, as well as a meal, to our homeless population. We are reaching out to the Wiregrass Community for HELP with volunteers as well as donations for items needed. We are in need of the following items to support this stand down: clothes, socks, combs, hair brushes, blankets, sleeping bags, personal hygiene items, can food, and tents. Donations can be dropped off at the Wiregrass United Way 2-1-1 office Monday-Friday (545 W Main St., Suite 313) until May 15th between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM. Donations can be dropped off at United Christian Fellowship Dothan starting May 16th from 10:00 AM through 2:00 PM as well as on the day of the event. Please help us support this worthwhile cause.

6th Annual Custom Knife Show and Sale

The Panhandle Pioneer Settlement is celebrating its 6th Annual Custom Knife Show and Sale on Saturday, April 26, 2014 in the beautifully restored Frink Gymnasium. This event begins at 8:00 am CDT and will showcase many vendors craftsmanship in the art of knife-making. There will be a $5.00 donation at the door. Southern knifemakers will be at the Panhandle Pioneer Settlement to show and sell one of a kind knife’s. If you enjoy handmade knives, this is the place to be. If you do not see a knife that you want then talk with the knifemakers and order your own custom made knife. There will also be a demonstration by John Butler on making knives at the Settlement's Blacksmith Shop at 9:00 am CDT. Army Strong Triathlon
West Beach, Lake Tholocco, Fort Rucker
Show us what you’re made of at Fort Rucker's annual Army Strong Triathlon, June 14th from 7 – 12 pm at West Beach, Lake Tholocco. Event will include ¼ mile swim, 10.6 mile bike race, and a 3.1 mile run. Cash awards will be given to the top overall finishers and the top relay team. All pre-registered participants will receive t-shirts. T-shirts will be available while supplies last. Individual cost is $40 if pre-registered by June 9th or $50 afterwards. Relay teams (max of 3 people) cost $70 by June 9th or $80 afterwards. Open to the public. Wiregrass Beekeepers Beginning Beekeeping Course

Houston County Farm Center, Dothan AL
The course is free, and designed to supply a novice beekeeper with all the information needed to take a colony from it’s inception through its first year. We only ask that you be interested in beekeeping. The class is free, and open to all who are interested in beekeeping.
The classroom sessions will be held at the Houston County Farm Center (corner of Ross Clark Circle and Rt. 53 (Cottonwood Rd)), and start at 7 pm and run for about 2 hours. The field session will start at noon at Landmark Park on US 431. Because we will be working with active colonies, people coming to Landmark will need their beekeeping protective gear.

Tuesday, Mar. 4, 7 pm: Biology 1 - The Three Types of Bees
The bees in a colony come in three basic types – worker, drone, and queen. We’ll discuss each type’s unique biology, life cycle, and functions.
Tuesday, Mar. 11, 7 pm: Biology 2 - The Colony as a Unit
We’ll discuss how the three types of bees form a working colony, and how the colony varies with the year depending on what is needed and what is available.
Tuesday, Mar. 18, 7 pm: The Beekeeper's Year and Bee Diseases
We’ll cover how a colony varies with the season and how the beekeeper deals with each season. We’ll also cover Alabama registration requirements and common bee diseases
Saturday, Mar. 29, 12 noon: Field Session with the Landmark Park Hives (beekeeping protective gear required!)
We will meet at Landmark Park. We’ll suit up, light smokers, and inspect the park’s hives, emphasizing proper hive working procedure. We’ll find the three types of bees, and probably a few unwelcome pests too. We’ll also start a colony.
