SEACT'S "Moon Over Buffalo"

Event Dates and Times

10/24/2017 - 10/28/2017
Dothan Cultural Arts Center
Date or Time = October 24 - 28
Cost? = $19 adults/$17 students, seniors 65+, and military with ID (limit 2)

"Moon Over Buffalo" is the show that resurrected Carol Burnette's Broadway career!
This show contains mild profanity and some colorful humor and is not recommended for younger audiences.

This show is a madcap comedy in the tradition of "Lend Me a Tenor" with lots of physical comedy, pratt falls, and such. The two main characters are old, washed up actors trying to make a come back to the stage, and it's quite a journey for them. Add in a very deaf mother-in-law, and the laughs are plenty.

The show runs October 24-28 at the Cultural Arts Center in Dothan at 7 o'clock each night. Tickets are available at seact.com, by calling the seact office at 794-0400, or at the CAC box office which opens at 6 o'clock each night of the show. Tickets are $19 adults and $17 for students, seniors 65+ and military with ID (limit 2).

Headland Scarecrows on the Square

Event Dates and Times

9/23/2017 - 11/1/2017
Headland Downtown Square
SCARECROWS ON THE SQUARE CONTEST OPENS

Join the fun of decorating Headland’s downtown with your own scarecrow for Headland Harvest Festival’s Scarecrows on the Square. Businesses, organizations, families and individuals are invited to design and display scarecrows in downtown Headland Sept. 28 through Nov. 1.

Participants must register their entries with the Headland Area Chamber Commerce and turn them in at the Municipal Complex for displaying downtown by Sept 27. Registration is $10 per entry which goes towards the cash prize for the winner. Voting will be held on Facebook and at the Municipal Complex Oct. 1-27 to determine the winning entry.

“This is the second year for Scarecrows on the Square and it’s become part of a ‘Scarecrow Trail’ connecting Dothan Botanical Gardens’ Scarecrows in the Garden and Abbeville’s Scarecrows at the Courthouse,” Chamber director Rhonda Harrison said. “It’s a great way for the whole community to be involved in the many activities that are a part of our Headland Harvest Festival which begins with the Harvest Pageant on Sept. 25 and the Harvest Run on Sept. 30. The scarecrows will be on display right on through Harvest Day Oct. 14 and Halloween Scream Oct. 31. The winner will be announced at PawsFest Oct. 28.”
A prize will also be awarded for the Best Scarecrow Selfie posted with #Headland Scarecrows.
To register, email HeadlandALchamber@gmail.com or call 334-693-3303. Forms and guidelines are available on the Chamber’s Facebook page and website.

Who is eligible?
Anyone 18 yrs. of age or older who has been deemed pre diabetic through a clinical lab test given by their doctor OR anyone who has taken a Diabetes screening test and found they were at risk. A support person is also welcome to accompany the participant. 86 million American adults have prediabetes and of those 86 million, 9 out of 10 don’t even know it. I would encourage anyone with a family hx of diabetes, anyone overweight or over the age of 60 to take a few minutes to take the risk test. The test can be found on the American Diabetes Association’s website at diabetes.org. We also have a risk assessment on the SARCOA site as well sarcoa.org

What is prediabetes?
A person with prediabetes has a blood sugar level higher than normal, but not high enough for a diagnosis of diabetes. Having high blood sugar places that individual at significant risk for developing T2 diabetes and other serious health problems, including heart disease and stroke. Our program is designed to guide participants towards long term lifestyle changes that have a positive impact on their health – changes such as healthier eating, reducing stress and getting more physical activity.

What are the class details?
The DPP is a yearlong, lifestyle change program. We will meet weekly for 16 weeks, then have 6 monthly follow up sessions. The next session begins July 20th and will be held on Thursday mornings from 10-11 at the Rose Hill Community Senior Center. The program curriculum is evidence based, not a quick fix, fad diet program. Reaching weight loss and physical activity goals takes both time and support, so that is the reason for the year long time commitment. I would definitely say that cutting your risk for developing T2diabetes in half is a great tradeoff for that time though! SARCOA invites all eligible candidates to join the Diabetes Prevention Program and make a change for life!
