MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Internal Revenue Service says help is available for Alabamians who have waited until near the deadline to file their income tax returns.

People with household incomes of $58,000 or less can use tax preparation software free at the IRS website.

IRS offices in Birmingham and Mobile will be open Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Citizens whose income was $49,000 or less can get their taxes prepared and filed electronically on a first-come, first-served basis.

Taxpayers 60 or older whose household income was $49,000 or less can get free tax preparation and electronic filing at several help sites staffed by IRS-trained volunteers. A list of the sites is available on the IRS website or by calling the toll-free number 1-800-906-9887.
