Chris Havely

I was raised around the Indianapolis area for most of my life, so I can definitely label myself a “Hoosier”, however I’ve also spent some time in Wisconsin and Minnesota. Having said that, I’m thrilled to be in the south at WTVY, and away from the frigid winters! I’ve always had a passion for weather as far back as I can remember, especially severe weather. Just ask my family, who swears that I never turned off The Weather Channel as a child.

I graduated from Ball State University in December 2012 with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, and during the prior year, my first job was as a freelance “Weather Specialist” for WPTA in Fort Wayne, IN. While I was there I forecasted for quite the variety of weather, from thunderstorms to snowstorms.

I furthered my education in severe weather by participating in several storm chasing events in 2012. That April, a group of fellow colleagues and I chased several tornadoes in the Great Plains, and were actually hit by one in Wichita, KS! That encounter furthered my respect for Mother Nature, and fed my passion to teach others about the dangers and science behind meteorology.

When I’m not forecasting or on air, you’ll find me playing pick-up basketball games, watching sports, or exploring the area. Since I’ve moved here, I have been wowed by the hospitality and kindness of the people, and I’m excited to bring you the most up-to-date and accurate weather coverage in the Wiregrass.
