TROY, Ala. – Troy rising senior Tolver Dozier qualified for his second U.S. Amateur Championship after earning Co-Medalist honors at the USGA Qualifier in Niceville, Fla., on Monday and Tuesday.
The winner of the U.S. Amateur will receive an invitation to play in all of the majors with the exception of the PGA Championship. The runner-up at the U.S. Amateur Championship will receive an invitation to play in the Masters and U.S. Open.
Dozier shot a 67-70—133 to finish in a tie for first place with Eli Hendricks at the Rocky Bayou Country Club. Both golfers will play in the U.S. Amateur Championship at the Atlanta Athletic Club (Highlands Course) on Aug. 11-17.
A native of Dothan, Ala., Dozier played in nine tournaments for the Trojans this past season and finished with a 74.7 stroke average over 27 rounds. He turned in a pair of top-20 finishes with his best coming at the Pinetree Intercollegiate where he tied for sixth after a 1-over 217.
Dozier played in the 2012 U.S. Amateur Championship at the Cherry Hills Country Club in Cherry Hills Village, Colo. This marks the third straight year a Troy golfer has qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship as Jake Tucker played in the 2013 event.
