BIRMINGHAM, AL -- Red Bay broke open a close game with a 22-point second quarter, cruising to a 54-38 win over Samson in the Class 2A Girls Semifinals on Tuesday. Red Bay advanced to Friday's 2A Championship Game at 1 p.m. against Woodland.
Red Bay led 10-8 after a tight first quarter, but took control by outscoring Samson 22-9 in the second quarter. Kasey Sparks led Red Bay (32-3) with 22 points.
LaTascya Duff led Samson (29-2) with 14 points. Janesha Green added eight points and 14 rebounds for the Tigers.
Woodland - 77 Montgomery Academy - 52
Leah Strain finished one assist shy of a triple double, leading Woodland past Montgomery Academy 77-52 in a Class 2A Girls Semifinal on Tuesday. With the win, Woodland advanced to face Red Bay for the 2A State Title on Friday.
Strain had a monster game, with 35 points, 15 rebounds and nine assists. Shayln Strain also posted a double double for Woodland with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Shanna Strain and Jaide Walker chipped in 10 points each for Woodland (33-1).
Jade Brooks led Montgomery Academy (24-6) with 13 points.
