Local Stars Sign College Scholarships

DOTHAN, AL -- Northview Track star Sean Kent has spent most of his life running. Now, Kent's legs have carried him to a college scholarship.

Kent on Wednesday signed to continue his track career at Troy University. He'll give the Trojans some versatility, running the 800 meter, 4X800 meter relay, 1600 meter and 3200 meter, plus a 5K in cross country during his Northview career.

"I think I'm going to be a very good distance runner," Kent said. "I'm probably not going to be the top one when we begin, because of all the great talent they have up there. I'm really hoping to pick up a few things from there and maybe by my junior year, take over as captain."

DOTHAN, AL -- Brooke Segler has been a three-sport star at Providence Christian for most of her prep career. Now, Segler has made her choice, signing a soccer scholarship with Faulkner University in Montgomery.

Segler was also a standout in basketball and volleyball, but she's decided to continue her athletic career on the pitch.

"When I chose soccer, I felt like I was better at soccer than at the other sports I played," Segler said. "Even though I might not have loved it, I really do like it, so hopefully, it will grow into a love."

ARITON, AL -- Samantha Bell decided to stay close to home to continue her softball career. Bell, a standout at Ariton High School, has signed a scholarship offer from Wallace Community College.

Bell has been a standout in the outfield for the Purple Cats. She believes she can be an asset to the Lady Govs in the same capacity, and Bell can't wait to get on campus and begin helping her new team.

"I'm very excited and I'm looking forward to playing for Wallace," Bell said. "I'm excited to be a part of a new team and to meet new people."
