BIRMINGHAM, AL -- Lauderdale County entered Thursday's Class 3A Girls Semifinal matchup against Straughn with a perfect 36-0 record. And, the Tigers proved why they entered the day with an umblemished record, using two big defensive quarters to beat Straughn 45-23.
With the win, Lauderdale County advanced to face the winner of Holy Pond and Trinity Presbyterian for the Class 3A State Championship on Saturday at 1 p.m. Straughn ends the year with a 28-2 record.
Lauderdale County (37-0) dominated the second and fourth quarters, outscoring Straughn 13-2 and 10- during those two periods. That allowed the Tigers to build a 21-8 halftime lead, and pull away down the stretch for the 22-point victory.
Chatara Cox and Makayla Lyles both posted double doubles for Lauderdale County, with Cox scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Lyles added 13 points and 12 boards, helping Lauderdale County out-rebound Straughn 45-36.
Jacie Williamson was the lone bright spot for Straughn, scoring 17 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.
