DOTHAN, AL- Today, Don O'Neal and the third annual "Salute Our Troops" tour made a pit-stop in the Wiregrass.
From the 4th of July through Labor Day, the tour is making its way around the southeastern United States to recognize military heroes and to raise awareness and money for the USO, Fisher house foundation, and eight state-based military support organizations. Each stop is held at Kangaroo Express stores.
This year's tour features Don O'Neal, a retired U.S. Army soldier and drag racer with more than 22 years of service in the Army and 18 years of experience on the track as a pro driver.
O'Neal grew up a racing fan alongside his father, but rediscovered his passion for the sport while serving. He is taking 10 weeks away from racing to join the tour and is excited to be giving back to something that has given him so much. The tour combines both of O'Neal's passions: racing and the military.
In 2010, O'Neal became the first active-duty solider to make it to a final round of a National Hot Rod Association national event. The event was the 2010 U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis. This summer, he will race the 2009 Mullis Salute Our Troops dragster, the one on display at all tour stops, in NHRA and Lucas Oil Racing events.
