BIRMINGHAM, AL -- The Elba Basketball Team advanced into uncharted territory on Tuesday. The Tigers beat the defending Class 2A State Champions from Tanner 61-52, earning the school's first ever appearance in the state title game.

Elba will face Luverne for the 2A State Championship on Friday at 3 p.m. at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center.

Cobe Goosby led the way for Elba (25-2) with 23 points and 17 rebounds. Goosby's monster game helped Elba avenge last year's state semifinal loss at BJCC.

Nick Green added 11 points and 15 rebounds for Elba, while Martavious Gray chipped in 11 points as well for the Tigers.

Johnathan Fletcher scored a game-high 27 points for Tanner in the losing effort. Tanner ends the year with a 20-8 record.

Luverne - 58 Lanett - 43

The Luverne Boys Basketball Team fell one game short of the Class 2A State Title Game last season. On Tuesday, the Tigers erased those memories, rolling past Lanett 58-43 in the 2A Semifinals.

With the win, Luverne (25-2) advanced to Friday's Class 2A Championship Game against Elba. Luverne beat Elba earlier this season.

DeAnthony Rutledge and Quindarius Thagard scored 13 points each for the Tigers. Preston Sankey added 10 points, while Donta' Hall chipped in eight points and 12 rebounds.

Luverne steadily pulled away from Lanett, outscoring the Panthers by two points in the first quarter, three in the second period, four points in the third and six points in the fourth.

Justin Jones led Lanett (22-4) with nine points.
