BIRMINGHAM, AL -- The Brantley Girls Basketball Team is one win away from a second straight Class 1A State Championship. The Bulldogs beat Falkville 56-54 on Tuesday morning at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center.
With the win, Brantley advanced to the Class 1A Championship Game on Friday at 9 a.m. at BJCC. The Bulldogs will play Loachapoka, who beat Woodville.
Brantley and Falkville battled through a tight affair, with the Bulldogs leading by three points at halftime. The game was tied after three quarters, before the Bulldogs edged Falkville by two points.
But, it wasn't easy for Brantley. Falkville had two chances in the final 15 seconds, missing a 3-pointer from Bailey Anders. After a jump ball gave the ball back to Falkville, the Blue Devils got one more chance, but failed to get off a shot in the final six seconds.
Payton Burnett led Brantley with 18 points, while Raven Davis added 12 points, all on 3-pointers and Amahni Upshaw posted a double double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Bulldogs (26-5) used strong shooting from 3-point range and the free throw line to top Falkville. Brantley hit 7-of-13 shots from beyond the arc and 17-of-25 free throws.
Autumn Edy led Falkville (21-8) with 13 points.
